Going Back to the Hood

I never expected that we'd have a team headed back to the Hood.  There were three ways we could have another guaranteed spot.  The first one was the fundraising route.  That was an incredible journey, but not one we were willing to undertake again.  The second was to get to the finish line within 30 minutes of our projected race time.  When we entered the race, we each had to fill out a survey giving a current race finish time which the Hood to Coast computer used to calculate out an expected total time for our team.  If the team comes within 30 minutes of that time, they have an automatic entry into the following year's race.  (I'll discuss this more later.)  We didn't quite make that time...I think we were just a bit too fast.  The third way we could earn a guaranteed spot was to place in the top six of our division.  That way was a wild card because there was no way to know where we were in the standings until it was all said and done.

I will have to admit.  When I first talked to the team about pacing, I honestly thought we had a great chance of trying to get a top six spot, but we decided as a team we weren't going to go with the intention of racing the event.  We were supposed to have a 9:30 pace or better, and we knew we'd be able to do that fairly easily given all the speedy gals we had on the team.  As it turned out, we ended up coming in 6th!!  (Originally they had us placed as 5th, but there was an error and the final results have us as 6th.)

So..the Dixie Daredevils are headed back to the Hood!!  We have an all new team, except for yours truly.  I couldn't resist.  I had a great time and really wanted the chance to go back again.  My hope for this team is for us to make it to the top six again, but even if we don't, I know we'll have a great time!

Stay tuned for information about the new team.
